The Armagh
Observatory is a modern astronomical research institute with a
rich heritage. Founded in 1790 by Archbishop Richard Robinson, the
Observatory is one of the UK and Ireland's leading scientific
research establishments. Around 20 astronomers are actively
studying the Sun and other stars, the Solar System, and the
Earth's climate Benburb Valley Park
consists of 100 acres of woodlands on both
sides of the banks of the river Blackwater from Milltown to May
down Bridge.
Benburb Castle
founded by Shane O'Neill, added to by British planters and now
restored in its 17th century state is also in the park, along with
the Benburb Valley Heritage Centre which is in a restored linen
mill.
