| Ennis is Clare's County town. Situated
on the banks of the River Fergus it has a rich medieval history
which is evident in the town's 14th and 15th century buildings such
as Ennis Friary which has rich carvings and decorated tombs. The
Burren is a vast limestone plateau of outstanding natural beauty.
It's flora, archaeology, geology, legends and history make it unique
in Europe. On the coast of West Clare, are the breathtaking Cliffs
of Moher. They rise in places to over 700 feet and stretch for
almost 8 km. O' Brien's Tower which was constructed in the early
l9th century as a viewing point for Victorian tourists is located on
Moher's highest cliffs. The Craggaunowen Bronze Age project at Quin
is a reconstruction of a bronze age site with prehistoric lake
dwellings, early Christian ring fort, Iron Age roadway and the
replica of the Brendan, the 6th century
vessel. |
