| Donegal Town has much to offer the
visitor and is the perfect base for exploring the rugged surrounding
countryside. The ruins of Donegal Castle are in the town centre.
Built by the O'Donnell family in the 15th century they have been
partly restored. There is little left of Donegal Abbey, which is
south of the market square on the River Eske, but a few Gothic
windows and cloister arches remain, giving a glimpse of its former
glory. Just outside the town is situated the Donegal Craft Village
which is a showcase for local artists and craftspeople. There are
many fine beaches along the Donegal coast including Rossnowlagh
where you can enjoy swimming, surfing and breathtaking coastal
walks. |
