Tarbert in the County of Kerry located in North Kerry close to the Shannon estuary is serviced by the Tarbert Killimer Shannon Car Ferry providing the quickest access route between County Kerry and County Clare. The ferry from Tarbert to Killimer in County Clare is just a 20 minute trip across the Shannon estuary and passes Tarbert Lighthouse. Tarbert has a number of lovely river bank walks or take the Tarbert House Woodland Walk or John F. Leslie Woodland Walk. The North Kerry Way Walk is a moderate linear walking route which can be enjoyed over a number of days or those seeking a more challenging walk there is the Shannon Way. Enjoy the Cuckoo Walking Festival in Tarbert in May to experience Tarbert at its best. Why not rent a car at Kerry Airport and explore the many towns of North Kerry such as Ardfert, Ballybunion, Ballyduff, Ballyheigue, Ballylongford, Blennerville, Castleisland, Fenit, Listowel, and Tarbert.

Tarbert and the surrounding areas have lots of attractions for the visitor, including Tarbert Bridewell Visitor Centre which exhibits details on the justice system in Ireland in the 19 century. Tarbert House, a Queen Anne Georgian period building and home to the Leslie family, was built in the 1600's and visited during those times by some famous people such as Daniel O'Connell, Charlotte Bronte and Winston Churchill.  Foynes Flying Boat Museum, Glin Castle, Carrigafoyle Castle in Ballylongford and the Franciscan Lislaughtin Abbey, all attractions suitable for family day outs in North Kerry. Tarbert is a very popular spot for some great angling, with lots of golf courses all within easy reach along with beautiful well known beaches such as those at Ballybunion and Ballyheigue and water based activities in the North Kerry area. Take the family on a dolphin watching tour departing from the pier at Tarbert. Tarbert Bay is the area for bird watching enthusiasts to visit..
